Shi Han 210mm petty / slicer hand forged in AEB-L stainless steel with a beautiful deep nashiji 'pear skin' finish hardened to 60HRC. Handle is also made by Shehan in heat treated 'Thermory' ash wood which reduces water damage and discourages bacterial growth. Comes with cork and kydex edge guard.
This line is forged from a single piece of AEB-L stainless steel which is not unheard of in this steel but not common, typically AEB-L blades are stock removal formed stamped construction. Mr. Prull coaxes excellent sharpenability and great edge formation from this steel. AEB-L stainless is a Swedish stainless steel that is capable of a fine carbide structure and is loved for it's fine edge formation and good stain resistance. Depending on how it is heat treated it can become harder to sharpen at this hardness but Shehan's heat treatment is really workable.
Shehan Prull is a knife maker in New Mexico producing Japanese-style knives from a variety of steels. Developing a love for blacksmithing as a youth, he has spent extensive time in Japan studying Japanese forging techniques, including two years with Mr. Hiroshi Ashi of Ashi Cutlery in Sakai. Mr. Prull returned to the States in 2009 and built his shop, producing products using the techniques and philosophy he studies in Japan.
