Shigeyoshi Iwasaki is the son of Kosuke Iwasaki, who pioneered the research into traditional forging techniques on antique katana to better understand old Japanese metallurgy. Many smiths in Niigata are heavily influenced by the Iwasaki school of forging. They are famous for the fine grain, easy sharpening, and long lived edges.
